LDBC Organizational Updates

by LDBC Board of Directors / on 22 Feb 2025

The Linked Data Benchmark Council (LDBC) was founded in 2012 with the goal of accelerating progress in graph data management. Over the years, LDBC’s membership grew to 20+ companies and its operations extended to graph query languages and schemas. This growth necessitated a rethink of the organization’s governance and funding structure.

Last December, the LDBC met in London to decide on future leadership, governance, and finances. The outcome of this meeting is briefly summarized below.

Leadership

  • Dr Henry Gabb became LDBC’s new chair. He was previously Intel’s representative in the LDBC and brings considerable expertise in benchmarking, hardware, and application development in the graph domain.
  • Alastair Green remains as LDBC vice chair.
  • Dr Benjamin Steer and Shipeng Qi remain on the Board of Directors.
  • Dr Gabor Szarnyas returned to the Board. He is the maintainer of the LDBC Social Network Benchmark and the LDBC Graphalytics graph analytics benchmark.

The LDBC thanked Prof Peter Boncz for his many contributions to the organization, including serving as chair or vice chair from inception until 2024.

Membership

The annual LDBC membership fee for organizations is based on a tiered fee structure related to company size. Note that the “sponsor member” tier is no longer available. Individual associate membership continues to be free.

To help build the graph community, the application process for individual LDBC membership was streamlined. You can expect faster turnaround times for applications.
