On Friday May 19 the fifth GRADES workshop was held at the primary database conference SIGMOD/PODS 2017 in Chicago.

GRADES is sponsored by LDBC, as the workshop aims to stimulate research and development of new graph data management technologies, the sharing of user experience and new graph data management scenarios, as well as indeed performance benchmarking of these systems. All these topics, and specifically the latter are also in the scope of LDBC.

The workshop was successful, with more than 40 participants it was the largest workshop of SIGMOD/PODS 2017 on that day. There had been 18 paper submissions and we accepted 9 for presentation and 4 as poster. Many LDBC members were there, including representatives from Oracle, SAP and Huawei, as well as many academic participants.

There were three publications at GRADES2017 by LDBC participants on LDBC, which we have added to the LDBC publications section:

  1.  on the future direction of the Social Network Benchmark (LDBC SNB) data generator.
  2.  on Granula, the cluster performance gathering and visualization tool used in, and introduced by, the LDBC Graphalytics benchmark.
  3. on the introduction of a shortest-path extension to SQL, an idea inspired by the LDBC activities on formulating a new graph query language.

The full program, including recorded streams of the presentations, are available at: event.cwi.nl/grades/2017/program.shtml
